The University Hospital Würzburg is seeking a PhD candidate for the Department of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Pain Therapy in a full-time position (38.5 hours per week), starting April 1, 2026.

Your Tasks

  • Performance of microneurography of human nociceptors in combination with psychophysical experiments and assessment of autonomic nervous system function
  • Use of specialized data analysis pipelines and rigorous statistical evaluation
  • Presentation of research results at international conferences and active contribution to high quality, peer reviewed publications

Your Profile

  • PhD in neuroscience, medicine, psychology, biology, or a related discipline
  • Solid background in excitable membrane physiology and preferably electrophysiology
  • Excellent manual skills and precision
  • Strong expertise in data analysis, ideally with electrophysiological neuroscientific datasets
  • Programming and statistical skills are an advantage
  • Very good communication skills and excellent command of English; German language skills are highly desirable
  • High intrinsic motivation, enthusiasm for mastering complex experimental techniques, and the ability to work independently and proactively within an interdisciplinary team
