As a part of highly interdisciplinary funded project between Department of Functional Materials in Medicine and Dentistry (FMZ) and the Eye Clinic at the University Hospital Würzburg at JMU, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Medical Technical Laboratory Assistant (Medizinisch-technische/r Laboratoriumsassistent/in) to join our dynamic research team at Eye Clinic, University Hospital Würzburg (https://www.ukw.de/augenklinik/startseite/).

As a Medical Technical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting our laboratory operations and research efforts.

The position is to be filled on a full-time (100%) fixed-term basis for three years. Working hours will be Monday to Friday (flexible working hours possible).

 

Your Tasks

  • Perform routine laboratory experimental tasks e.g. cell culture, histology, western blot, gel electrophoresis, immunofluorescence staining, drugs formulation development,  isolation of primary cells from various human ocular tissues, microscopy, assays with plate readers etc.
  • Establishing protocols for biomaterial and drug delivery systems testing on the various cells lines and in-vitro models.
  • Assist with the preparation, setup, and maintenance of laboratory experiments, equipment and inventory management.
  • Follow established protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure quality control and safety.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with laboratory equipment and reagents.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to our research team in conducting experiments at the interface of biology and material science to optimize experimental protocols and procedures.
  • Prepare technical reports, summaries, and documentation for all lab related and experimental tasks.
  • Stay updated with the latest relevant research and developments in the field of ocular biology and material science.

Your Profile

  • You have completed vocational training in the desired job profile or have equivalent skills and professional experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in a research or academic environment.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures (as stated in responsibilities section)
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment, software and computer.
  • Open to learn new techniques and demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean laboratory environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal in German and English language.
