The non-invasive DBS lab, led by Dr. Maximilian Wessel (Department of Neurology, UKW), and the Behaviour and Brain Lab, headed by Prof. Dr. Mona Garvert (Faculty of Human Sciences, JMU), invite applications for a PhD position focused on the interplay between striatal and hippocampal processing in decision-making and Parkinson’s Disease (PD). This is your opportunity to shape impactful research using advanced neuroimaging and neurostimulation techniques, including transcranial temporal interference stimulation (tTIS).

Your Tasks

  • Develop and lead independent research projects combining computational cognitive neuroscience and neuromodulation.
  • Recruit and test participants, including healthy controls and PD patients, for innovative tTIS studies.
  • Analyze behavioral and neuroimaging data with precision and rigor.
  • Present your findings at international conferences and publish in high-impact journals.
  • Optionally contribute to teaching activities.

Your Profile

  • Required Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in neuroscience, psychology, biomedical engineering, medicine, or a related field.
    • Hands-on research experience, preferably with human behavior studies, brain stimulation, or computational tools.
    • Strong coding skills (Matlab, Python, R, or Javascript) and statistical expertise.
    • Proficiency in English and German.
    • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, thriving in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience working with clinical populations, particularly in neurodegenerative diseases.
