A PhD position (TV-L E13 65%, 3 years) is available as soon as possible for a collaboration project between the Departments of Anaesthesiology and Dermatology at the University Hospital Würzburg, University of Würzburg, Germany. The research project funded by the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research (IZKF) is settled within the field of pain research and investigates the causes underlying Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), a debilitating disorder, for which no targeted therapy is currently available. Aim of the project is the identification of novel therapeutic targets and the advancement of new innovative therapies and risk assessments.

Your Tasks
- Conducting experimental work on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of CRPS using both classical cell and molecular biological methods and cutting-edge techniques including Single Cell RNA sequencing, time-lapse microscopy, FACS- and ELISA-based analysis of inflammatory markers, immunofluorescence and STED-microscopy
- Performing dedicated in vitro functional assays using human primary cells (particularly endothelial cells and dendritic cells) to investigate cellular crosstalk, migration, angiogenesis, and proliferation/apoptosis
- Confirmation of experimental findings in murine models as translational approach
- Analyzing data and contributing to publications and presentations at national and international conferences
- Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, and technical staff
Your Profile
- M.Sc. degree in biomedicine, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related fields
- Strong background in cell culture techniques and molecular biology
- Experience with laboratory techniques particularly the above mentioned techniques is advantageous
- Proficiency in English (both written and spoken); German skills are a plus but not required
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently as well as in a team
- Interest in pain research and enthusiasm for scientific discovery
